When planning your wedding photography timeline, one of the biggest decisions couples face is whether to do a first look. At Forever Love Photography, we believe that a first look can bring deep, emotional moments and timeless images—here’s why it’s something you should seriously consider.
A first look is a private, intimate moment before the ceremony when the couple sees each other for the first time on their wedding day. Unlike the traditional walk-down-the-aisle reveal, this is pre-ceremony, often captured in a quiet setting just for the two of you and your photographer.
One of our core values at Forever Love Photography is capturing authentic moments and raw emotions. A first look gives you a few quiet minutes together—away from the anticipation and nerves of walking down the aisle—and that can be so genuine, so heartfelt. These are moments you’ll cherish forever, often more intimate than the ceremony reveal, because there isn’t an audience yet.
By doing a first look, some of the pressure lifts off before walking down the aisle. Once you’ve already seen each other, shared those initial big emotions, you can step into the ceremony with more calm and presence. Your makeup, hair, and nerves will have had a little more breathing room.
Photography is all about light, setting, and timing. Doing a first look often means your photographer can schedule portraits of you two (couple portraits, getting ready, details) before the ceremony, while the light is softer. That gives more flexibility and ensures the artistic, timeless, elegant quality that our clients love.
If you skip the first look, you’ll likely have to do many portraits after the ceremony, sometimes in tighter time windows, with family and bridal party, etc. With a first look, bride & groom portraits can happen earlier, freeing up more of the post-ceremony schedule, allowing you to relax more during cocktail hour and enjoy mingling with guests.
Forever Love Photography specializes in “joyful, timeless, and romantic wedding photography.” Doing a first look gives you the chance to have more candid moments between just the two of you—laughs, maybe tears, comfort in each other’s presence—without the distraction or expectations of the crowd. These are moments that translate into the most meaningful wedding photos.
You deserve wedding images that feel authentic and timeless. At Forever Love, our style is polished but emotional; we believe in letting your love story shine through every shot, not just the posed ones. First looks help bring out that balance: they allow for intentional, elegant portraits, while also making space for spontaneity and genuine connection.
Of course, doing a first look isn’t always the perfect fit. If a traditional, ceremony reveal, or keeping with certain rituals (family expectations, religious customs) is very important, you might prefer waiting for that moment at the aisle. Also, if your timeline is tight and doing both a first look and full ceremony portraits doesn’t leave enough breathing room, you’ll want to plan carefully.
A first look doesn’t replace your ceremony—it simply gives you more intentional time together, more control over light and flow, and chances for authentic, emotional images that reflect who you are as a couple. It aligns well with the joyful, romantic, truly authentic imagery Forever Love Photography strives to capture.
