Family Portraits & Why They’re Important

Family Portraits in the Fall

We are so honored to have you visit our blog about Why having family portraits is so important. First, let’s define the term ‘family’. Family in the Webster dictionary is defined as “a group of one or more parents and their children living together as a unit.” Now, some families have dogs, cats, birds, lizards, and even snakes. We understand that you might not be able to bring your goldfish to the family portrait session but we always highly encourage our clients to bring their dog(s) to sessions. Sometimes we’re even lucky enough to work with families who own horses and we get to incorporate them into the family session.

We currently offer family sessions anywhere in Georgia and during every season – fewer in the wintertime because burr! Some people prefer to do their family sessions in the Spring when everything is light, bright, and colorful.

While others prefer sessions in the summer while hiking their favorite spots. Oh yes, we LOVE to go on adventures with our couples and our families!

Then we have the most popular time of year, fall. Lots and I mean A WHOLE LOT of families LOVE to have their portraits done in the fall. And why not! In Georgia, leaves begin to turn by around the end of September with peak color around the middle of October into early November before they turn brown and fall off in preparation for the massively long Georgia winter (insert sarcasm here).  Now while we strive to be as light and airy as possible, when the background is so rich and vibrant, images during these vibrant times will come out as you see in all of these sample photos, true to color, which of course is gorgeous in and of itself.

Fall Family Portraits

Family Portraits in the Fall

Last but not least, let’s not forget that a family is sometimes just a husband and wife. Many couples prior to having children fail to think of themselves as family and don’t think about having these times captured but it’s a great thing for their kids and grandkids to look back on in years to come.

Now that we have examples of what family is and what seasons we photograph the most, let’s talk about the importance of family portraits and why you shouldn’t skip out on them.

In the fourth photo is the Montgomery family. I have had the privilege of photographing this family and their sweet children many times over the past few years. After we did this session with the moms’ parents, she posted on Facebook something that not only broke my heart but made me realize that there are probably many people just like her out there. So with her permission, I’m going to share that post with you here.

So many of us get so busy with life that we forget that one day we or someone we love will no longer be with us. Don’t let another year or even another season pass without having family portraits made. Let’s create memories that you and your loved ones will cherish for a lifetime! If you’re in the Greater Atlanta Georgia area and are looking for a fun, family photographer who will be your biggest cheerleader and become a true friend, please contact me here to schedule your session!

Lots of love and hugs,
